Learning activity types are content specific methods that combine to makeup a lesson, a unit or a specific activity. A few examples of activity types would be: reading a text, viewing an image or listening to an audio clip. The primary goal is to employ multiple types of learning activities within each lesson and unit so that you ensure that the information is transmitted to each of students in a manner most suited to their specific learning style. For example visual learners would most likely retain information best from the activities of viewing an image or a simulation, while audio learners would likely be more successful listening to a recording or participating/listening to a debate. Each type of activity is meant to target a different type of learner, but they are also meant to increase all of the students abilities to perform basic academic skills. For example in reading a text students should gain experience in deciphering the meaning behind a primary source or enhance their ability to pick out key topics and main ideas. To push students to higher levels of thinking and understanding different activity types can be combined into one hybrid activity that may employ multiple types of learning and academic skills.
